Indian Parents of a child born in New Zealand must register the birth of their child with the High Commission of India in New Zealand within 1 year of child's birth. Such child shall be a citizen of India by descent, if either of the parents ( father or mother ) is an Indian citizen at the time of birth of the child and the birth of the child has been registered with The High Commission of India, Wellington within one year of the birth. THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET CHILD'S INDIAN PASSPORT, IF THEY DON'T REGISTER CHILD'S BIRTH WITHIN 1 YEAR.
It must be noted that when you apply for registration of your child's birth with High Commission of India, you should simultaneously also apply for first passport of the child. Both applications are separate, but should be filed together at the same time.
