If your New Zealand passport is lost, stolen or damaged - the first step you need to do is report it to Police and get file number of your report and then immediately call New Zealand Passport office phone no. 0800 22 50 50 if you are in New Zealand. If you are currently overseas, then you should immediately call +64 (4) 463 9360.
You must immediately call NZ Passport Office - 0800 22 50 50 It is important that you should report to New Zealand passport office that your passport is lost or stolen so that your passport can be blocked and can not be used by anyone. You will need to inform your passport number, how your passport has been stolen or lost, which city and country it was lost in and when (date and time). If you don't have the passport number, even then you should call and inform everything.

Who can be a Referee for New Zealand Passport?
A person must satisfy following conditions to act as a referee for issue of a New Zealand passport.
A person:
- who is 16 years or older
- has known you for more than one year, or since birth for a child under 12 months
- has a valid New Zealand passport (this can be current or expired, but not lost, stolen or damaged)
- is prepared to give personal details like their name, date of birth, passport number and
- is contactable
They must not be:
- related to you e.g. a cousin, parent, sister or brother
- your partner or spouse
- part of your extended family group
- living at the same address
