Difference Between Indian Tourist Visa, Indian Entry Visa and Indian E-Visa
- Entry Visa is more flexible and comes with less conditions as compared to Tourist Visa.
- Foreigners who are of Indian origin or whose spouse or parents/grandparents are of Indian origin CAN ONLY apply for Entry Visa. This category of foreigners can also apply for Tourist Visa, but it is always recommended to apply for ENTRY Visa as it comes with more rights and fewer restrictions.
- Foreigners who are not of Indian origin or whose spouse/parents/grandparents are NOT of Indian origin are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply for ENTRY Visa they can only apply for Indian TOURIST Visa or Indian E-Visa.
Tourist Visa is granted only for sole purpose of visiting India for sightseeing, recreation or meeting friends / relatives, attending a short term yoga programme (not exceeding 6 months and not issued with a qualifying diploma / certificate), short duration medical treatment including treatment under Indian systems of medicine. However, for Entry Visa – The purpose of Visit can be anything.
- If you are applying for Indian Tourist Visa for 1 year or more or/and for multiple entry, then you MUST submit your biometrics with High Commission of India, Wellington. No such requirement for Indian Entry Visa.
- On a Tourist Visa – You can stay in India for a maximum continuous period of 90 days ONLY on each visit, even if your visa is for 6 months/1 year or 5 years. However, for ENTRY Visa there is no such limitation/restriction on continuous stay during each visit. For example an ENTRY Visa of 6 months allow you to stay in India for 6 Months during your visit, But on a Tourist Visa of 6 Months – You can only stay for a maximum of 90 days during each visit.
- TOURIST Visa can not be extended, however ENTRY Visa can be extended
The third category is Indian E-Visa which is the most preferred and easiest to get and most cheapest visa for all (foreigners and foreigners of Indian origin).
Indian E-Visa is a multiple entry visa valid for 365 days from the date of issue. You can stay in India for a maximum period of 90 days during each stay. Indian E-Visa is non-extendable and non-convertible.
Indian E-Visa application is filed and processed completely online where you pay the application fee by credit card and you receive the E-Visa in around 72 hours by email. Indian E-Visa has nothing to do with High Commission of India, Wellington and is processed and granted by Government of India’s Immigration Bureau online from their Visa portal.
All other Indian visas require you to submit your application online as well as you MUST also send a paper application to High Commission of India with your original passport. Do You know that you might be eligible for Indian E-Visa?
Indian E-Visa is a quick visa that you can get within 72 hours and is applied online and visa fee is also paid online by credit card. This visa does not require you to contact Indian Embassy or Indian High Commission. You get this visa by email. Indian E-Visa is only valid for 60 days stay from the date of entry into India and is NON-EXTENDABLE & Non-Convertible. As such you can not extend E-Visa. If you wish to stay for a period of more than 60 days then you must apply for a regular Tourist Visa or Entry Visa (for persons of Indian Origin).
