Persons of Indian origin holding foreign passport, their spouses and children and Foreign spouse of an Indian national are all eligible for ENTRY VISA.

Difference Between Tourist Visa and Entry Visa

Entry Visa is more flexible and comes with less conditions as compared to Tourist Visa.

Foreigners who are of Indian origin or whose spouse or parents/grandparents are of Indian origin CAN ONLY apply for Entry Visa. This category of foreigners can also apply for Tourist Visa, but it is always recommended to apply for ENTRY Visa as it comes with more rights and fewer restrictions.

Foreigners who are not of Indian origin or whose spouse/parents/grandparents are NOT of Indian origin are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply for ENTRY Visa they can only apply for Indian TOURIST Visa.

Tourist Visa is granted only for sole purpose of visiting India for sight-seeing, recreation or meeting friends / relatives, attending a short term yoga programme (not exceeding 6 months and not issued with a qualifying diploma / certificate), short duration medical treatment including treatment under Indian systems of medicine. However, for Entry Visa - The purpose of Visit can be anything.

On a Tourist Visa - You can stay in India for a continuous period of 90 days Only on a visit, even if your visa is for 6 months/1 year or 5 years. However, for ENTRY Visa there is no such limitation/restriction on continuous stay during each visit. For example an ENTRY Visa of 6 months allow you to stay in India for 6 Months during your visit, But on a Tourist Visa of 6 Months - You can only stay for a maximum of 90 days during each visit.

TOURIST Visa can not be extended, however ENTRY Visa can be extended

Check if you are eligible for Entry Visa (Only persons of Indian origin or persons whose spouse, parents or grandparents are of Indian origin are eligible);
Complete & download online application for Entry Visa on government of India Visa Portal;
Pay applicable application fee to the High Commission of India, Wellington;
Attach 2 latest coloured photographs with light background (size: 2"X2" or 51mm X 51mm);
Original Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into India;
Copy of your Cancelled Indian Passport and/or Renunciation of Indian citizenship certificate;;
If your Indian Passport is not cancelled, please apply for cancellation of Indian Passport on prescribed application form with cancellation fee and renunciation of Indian citizenship;
If you are a foreigner and applying for Entry Visa on the basis of your Indian origin spouse or Indian origin parents/grandparents then you need to submit number of other documents also. Please contact Visa Factory to know about the full list of documents required in your case;
If you have done everything correct, you should receive your ENTRY Visa or a Visa Decline intimation within 15 to 20 working days (This time may be more in individual cases).
